The BREEAM certificate is provided to buildings with a high sustainability level as its main feature. Both our distribution centers in Veendam are certified according to BREEAM. Contract logistics at Oldenburger|Fritom therefore means that we store and handle your products in paragons of sustainability, both now and in the future.

About the BREEAM certificate

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) was introduced in 1990 by the British BRE (Building Research Establishment). It is the most used method to determine the sustainability level of buildings. Next to countries like Germany, Sweden, Norway and Spain, the Netherlands adjusted the BREEAM method to national rules and regulations.

To obtain a BREEAM-NL certificate an independent assessment is carried out. The used rating method contains 9 different subcategories. These each have their own rating factor:

Management (12%)
Health (15%)
Energy (19%)
Transport (8%)
Water (6%)
Materials (12,5%)
Waste (7,5%)
Land Use & Ecology (10%)
Pollution (10%)

A maximum of 10 innovation points (10%) can be added to this. The end score is then qualified by giving 1 to 5 stars.

Energy neutral and hydrologically neutral

In 2018 Oldenburger|Fritom built a state-of-the-art distribution center in Veendam according to the highest BREEAM level Outstanding (5 stars). According to the latest sustainability criteria there was no gas connection installed. Instead a heat pump and a solar park with 1,600 solar panels were installed.

The buffering and infiltration facility to the neighboring site assures rainwater is slowly drained. Part of the rainwater is also collected and stored in an extra water tank for internal usage. All these sustainable provisions make our distribution center not only energy neutral but also hydrologically neutral, scoring 97.3% on the BREEAM-NL scale.
