Company visits and guest lectures for students

As a logistics knowledge organization, Oldenburger|Fritom often works together with regional educational institutions. Sharing knowledge is central to these sustainable partnerships. To this end, we regularly open our doors to students and give guest lectures on specific topics, including BREEAM.

“New Roads”
Who am I, what can I do and what do I want? These questions are being examined at “New Roads”, a program of the educational institution Noorderpoort. This program is intended for VET-students who have discovered that their chosen study program does not suit them. “New Roads” focuses on the development of their personal identity, enabling them to make a conscious choice for a new course to follow. An important part of this “tailor-made learning process” is career orientation.

In this context, 17 students visited Oldenburger|Fritom this month. They were given a presentation and a tour where we emphasized that there is a lot to choose from in logistics. In addition to positions in the operation, such as logistics employee and shift leader warehouse, there are also various supporting positions. Think of a position in quality management, for example, or administrative positions.

Guest lecture on BREEAM
Last week, our Continuous Improvement Manager, Frans Andeweg, gave a guest lecture on BREEAM. Frans did this on location at NHL Stenden in Emmen, for approximately 20 International Logistics Management students. During the guest lecture, Frans explained what BREEAM entails and why sustainable construction is also very important within the logistics sector.

Warehouse Optimization
Also last week, Frans guided the visit of 25 students of Noorderpoort Logistics. The students are in the third year of the Specialist Transport and Logistics course and gained insight into warehouse optimization during this visit. Taking the products of different customers – and their requirements – as a starting point, Frans indicated which choices have to be made when setting up warehousing processes. The pick-to-ship cycle is an example of this, but so is the use of equipment that best matches the specific product of the customer.
