Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) and Oldenburger|Fritom entered into a partnership earlier this year. DGBC is the driving force behind the sustainability of the built environment in the Netherlands and promotes the Dutch version of the BREEAM quality mark.
Founded in 2008, DGBC is a non-profit foundation. With a broad support base of approximately 400 partners from the Dutch construction and real estate sector, DGBC aims to make a difference in making the built environment more sustainable. This social network organization has a simplified governance structure and holds the PBO-status.
In 2009, DGBC adapted the originally British BREEAM certification method for the Netherlands: BREEAM-NL. Since then, DGBC has managed and developed the BREEAM-NL assessment guidelines. BREEAM, the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is used in this way in more than 80 countries.
The goal is to make the sustainability performance of buildings, areas, and projects measurable. BREEAM-NL has four different quality marks:
The BREEAM rating system has different levels, with Outstanding being the highest achievable:
In 2019, Oldenburger Fritom was the first logistics service provider in the Northern Netherlands to open a distribution center in the Dutch city of Veendam with a BREEAM Outstanding rating. This year, we opened a second distribution center with the highest BREEAM rating. We also upgraded our existing warehouse in Veendam from BREEAM In-Use Excellent to Outstanding.
This means that all our buildings in Veendam are now BREEAM Outstanding certified. This prompted DGBC to approach us for a partnership. This is remarkable, as the DGBC network consists primarily of construction and real estate companies. To mark the partnership, DGBC interviewed our CEO, René Dale, and management team member Albert Medendorp, our Freight Forwarding Manager and BREEAM project leader.
Oldenburger|Fritom looks forward to the cooperation and sharing knowledge within the DGBC partner network.
