Top Dutch Solar Racing is a student team from the Northern Netherlands. During 2019, this team participated in the World Solar Challenge in Australia, for the first time. The team gained a well-deserved fourth place and was awarded the Excellence in Engineering Award. Oldenburger|Fritom is proud to call itself the logistic partner of this team. We take care of all transportation and logistics processes of their self-built solar-powered car.
The World Solar Challenge is held every other year since 1987. In October 2019 the 15th edition took place. All teams cover over 3000 kilometers through the outback of Australia: from Darwin way up North to Adelaide in the South. The challenge is to develop the most efficient solar car in which sustainable innovations take the lead.
Students of the University of Groningen (RUG) and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences took the initiative to take part in the World Solar Challenge. This initiative resulted in a unique collaboration with a distinctive difference compared to other participating teams. The solar car of Top Dutch Solar Racing is built by students from trade schools and universities combined. They each follow an education at one of the educational institutions in the Northern Netherlands.
In 2019 Top Dutch Solar Racing took part in the Challenger Class. After getting pole position in the qualifying round the students were the first to leave Darwin. Top Dutch Solar Racing gained a very creditable fourth place and was the best Dutch team. The students also were rewarded with the Excellence in Engineering Award. The jury was highly impressed by the outstanding quality of the debut of this team.
The solar car named Green Lightning was built on the Zernike Campus in Groningen. Once finished, Oldenburger|Fritom transported Green Lightning by airfreight to Australia. After the World Solar Challenge, we shipped the solar car back via sea freight container to The Netherlands. We provide the Top Dutch Solar Racing team with international logistic expertise in addition to taking care of the entire logistic process of the solar car.
