Two teams with a focus on a growth mindset

On Tuesday 28 June, FC Emmen invited the employees of Oldenburger|Fritom for a visit to stadium ‘De Oude Meerdijk’. Oldenburger|Fritom has been a business partner of FC Emmen for many years and sponsor of their youth academy. We are also a partner of FC Emmen Naoberschap, the social branch of the football club. Our sustainable relationship was therefore the reason for the invitation. The theme was personal leadership training and the growth mindset culture.

On the occasion of this visit FC Emmen made their team bus available, which took us from Veendam to the stadium. Here we were welcomed in the Oldenburger|Fritom Lounge, the VIP area of the FC Emmen stadium, where an extensive buffet was waiting for us. FC Emmen trainer Dick Lukkien and René Dale, CEO of Oldenburger|Fritom, then discussed about personal leadership training.

A growth mindset culture
At Oldenburger|Fritom, the employees make the difference. That is why we organize several sessions in personal leadership training every year. During these sessions, increasing brain knowledge and creating awareness of thought patterns is central. The focus is on a growth mindset culture: seeing opportunities for development and being open to change. This encourages a more positive mindset within our team.

FC Emmen also has a growth mindset culture. This became even more clear in the last football season, in which FC Emmen became champion of the first division of the Netherlands. Dale therefore asked the FC Emmen coach how he achieved this. Lukkien replied: “By sticking to our strategy and continuing to focus on the common goal.” Dale and Lukkien, both born in East Groningen, concluded that the focus on a growth mindset contributes to the right balance between personal development and collective ambition.

As a thank you for this unique sparring session, Dale presented Lukkien with the first copy of the book 'More than 100 years Oldenburger|Fritom'. Due to our 105th anniversary on November 10th we updated our 2017 anniversary book. To conclude the very successful visit, FC Emmen account manager Guus de Vries showed us around the stadium.
